A list of Worst Buys that you should avoid

Shopping acts as a therapy for a huge number of people and is a great idea. But, shopping for the wrong thing might result in doing more damage. We should be clear about what we want, why we should buy it, and whether it would suit us.

One should buy according to one’s needs, not one’s wants. But in the present time, want is an overpowering need because of various reasons. Some of the reasons include

1. 50% discount

The words “sale” and “discount” attract a large number of people. People tend to buy things just because they are available at half of the original price and do not notice the fact that a particular item’s price might be less because it is no longer in trend. The items that are in trend and have high demand would usually have high prices. When you but items that are in their phase out period, you tend to not even wear your new purchase more than once because it’s already out of style. If in fact you love sales, shop for classic items that will not feel dated even after five years.

2. ‘Fit you later’ attitude

It is always advisable to buy those clothes that actually fit you. People try to avoid going for larger sizes because they think it’s embarrassing. They are of the opinion that they’ll lose or gain some weight and then fit into the clothes, which is not a good attitude. You are not supposed to fit in the clothes, instead, the clothes should fit you.

Going for a size down thinking that you’ll fit into it later is the most mindless approach to shopping. Everytime you look at it hanging in your cupboard you create negative thoughts about your body that eventually leads to a negative body image and feeling of sadness. Avoid buying smaller size at all costs, in fact look for pieces that have certain ease amount for you to be able to wear even if your body changes in size.

3. Sale’s person’s opinion

Clothes tend to determine and reflect an individual’s personality and hence should always be bought keeping in mind your roles and goals. People usually get swayed by what a salesperson says. It is their job to flatter the buyer’s ego and make him/her buy the product, so one should not get influenced by them. Asking others’ opinions is not a bad thing but don’t buy things that you normally wouldn’t have purchased.

4. Impulse Purchase

Buying something just because it is pretty or appealing is not the right way to shop. These impulsive purchases usually don’t go with anything else in the wardrobe and just take up space. We should always put enough thought before purchasing something and should always buy staple pieces of clothing that are affordable.

A tip to stop impulse purchase is to add the product to your cart and check it again after 24 hours. If you still think you should get that product then go ahead and make the purchase but chances are high that you would not want to buy it the next day.

5. Depend on Friends

Every human being is made differently, possesses different qualities, and has a different body type. This means an outfit that might look good on one body type might not be perfect for the other. For example, clothes that cinch the waist are preferred for rectangular-shaped bodies but might not have the same effect on pear-shaped bodies. So one must not choose to buy something just because it looks flattering on your friend. Because of different body types, it might not have the same effect on you.

6. Price over Quality

It is always better to choose quality over price, not the other way around. Low price means low quality which in turn means less usability eventually resulting in the waste of money. Because of the lower price, people tend to lose control and buy lots of clothes. They do not realize that a product having less price indicates less cost of production which might be a result of using low-level ingredients and materials to make the cloth. The chemicals used would not only be harmful to our skin but also to the environment. When you buy better quality clothes you CPW (Cost per wear) goes down drastically as you tend to wear the clothes more.
